Hello fellow nerds! I love painting miniatures and filming/editing & thought I'd combine the two to help provide additional painting tutorials and tips. I'll begin with painting Star Wars: Imperial Assault. Each episode can be quite time consuming due to the video editing process. I greatly appreciate any support! Nemesis Painting Tutorial: the Queen
Welcome to my next painting tutorial for the game Nemesis!
If you'd like to help support future videos, head over to my patreon page: www.patreon.com/nerdpaints.
Honestly though, I love doing these when I'm able to so just your patience between videos is greatly appreciated!
With that said, it has been a little while since my last tutorial until now but I'm excited to share this one. This is also my first video utilizing an airbrush! You can easily use a standard brush though. Check out my tutorial on the Breeder and 1st version of the Intruder for tips on using a brush along with color shift paints. Basically, with a standard brush, apply thin layers, don't thin out your color shift paint, and allow paint to dry between layers. You'll keep building it up until you get the desired look you want (darker use less layers). If you have any questions about how I airbrushed, etc, post in the comments and I'll try and reply back asap. I'm also fairly new to airbrushing but love using it. I'm thinking I'm going to implement airbrushing more in future videos if anyone is interested!
Also, I mentioned it in my video but, big shout-out to Heroes & Bosses for the idea on the caution decal paint on the base! You can view his video at this link:

I also mentioned in my video if you want to check out Green Stuff World's tutorial on testing out their colorshift paints on plastic spoons, here is the link. I'd recommend trying it out to see how dark/bright and which shades you want to use.

www.patreon.com/nerdpaints This is a quick tutorial on building a wet palette. I bought one on Amazon that I really like but the only difference really is the container. I wanted something not quite as deep. I also use parchment paper in mine vs the paper it came with. Star Wars Imperial Assault Painting Tutorial (Episode 1): Rancor
Shouldn't you use varnish before the grass and moss and not after? Won't that add spider webs and a milky looking dew to your grass?
Probably the best painting tutorials I've seen on YT. Well done.
Only can say WOW 😮. Great work 👏🏻
Amazing tutorial, I'm going to draw a lot inspiration from it. Thank you. 🙏
Water is too blight in my opinion. Northern waters look more like dark green and dark blue. But...
Thanks for painting this with GSW colorshifts. I want to do the same with my minis and I looked for some reference :)
Greetings NerdPaints i just would like to say thank you for helping to make my intruders look absoulty amazing. I used this paint scheme for my intruders and it took me a whole year but i finally was able to fiinish painting all of my intruders including the King and Queen (using your breeder video). I would love for you to see them and even though these were my first introduction to the miniture hobby I absoulty love how they came out and that was thanks to you. I do hope you make another vedio on how to paint Nemesis minitures because to be honest out of all the youtube videos this paint scheme to me is the most close resemblence to the box and thats what some people want. I hope you are doing well and will someday comeback to continue painting.
A hot tip. instead of putting scotch tape over your palet. use a wet palet. Paints good for 3 days. I have all ready done a Rancor very happy with it. But yours outshines mine, think I want to do another now using your tutorial
These look amazing, I've watched both your videos for painting intruders (colorshift and non colorshift version). Do you think it would be possible to have a clear/lighter top of the head (as you did on the non colorshift version) using colorshift too? 🤔
Best painting i've seen so far on youtube
Fantastico
Really beautiful “mini”. One misconception i sees lot on for reflection is about the flaming sword. I see many using red or yellow to highlight on the arm and legs closest to the sword. Looks good. But fire isn’t a color. It’s pure light. So in reality it should only illuminate the areas closest to it. Just a tip ☺️
Hello! What brushes are you using? :)
Awesome paint job
This is such an informative video. I can't understand why more people are not subscribing to this guy. The use of the second brush is so obvious and yet not one other painter has mentioned it. I have watched a ton of videos but learned more from yours than most of the rest put together. Your video and sound quality is terrific. Thank you for being such an inspiration.
Thanks! I appreciate that. Sorry for such a delayed response. It’s been a crazy past couple years. I’m planning on making more videos soon though. Thanks!
I plan to paint the lockdown intruders with a red/orangey colour to look like a mars setting. Would you recommend zenthial priming the nightstalker intruders with black and white if im going for red/orange rather than just black prime?
Hey this is awesome I recently bought nemesis including all its expansions. I love how you’ve painted these intruders. Will you or do you have interest in painting the added expansions as well such as the voidseeders, carnomorphs, etc. thank you
same question here 🙂 will you continue?
Just found your channel, great stuff.
Great tutorial, i find it so easy to follow. Please do more of these. Your very good at this 😎👍
awesome! could you please continue with painting the nemesis larva and creeper?
Do you by any chance have a alternative recommendation for the P3 Traitor Green? I own a tonne of Citadel Greens so I'd rather not buy yet another green. Seems like you could mix some Elysian Green and Mechanics Standard Grey to make something similar?
It looks great but I don't think it matches the Alien figures very well. But that is of course very subjective.
Thank you for amazing video! I made my first figure in my life thanks to you and it looks so cooool!!!
Can i use zenithal highlighting before doing all this? Please help me 😅
Damn, you just made me to buy GWS Colorshift. Great technics. But other your intruder just as great as this. Learn both your technics. Thanks a bunch
Hello, really nice how you paint that intruder. It's very inspiring. I was wondering, do you think about painting more from Nemesis? Like the crew, or even the carnamorps from the expansion? Keep up the good work!
Your really good man 👍👍
Seriously - WOW - This is probably in the TOP 10 of the 100,000,000 MILLION miniatures of quality. Impressive. Also, your presentation and instructions are superb. I can't figure out why you don't show up in searches more.
Probably the best Nemesis pant job ive ever seen, very nice work. It's so difficult deciding what colors i want to do to mine!
I stumbled upon your video after watching Sorastro's video, thinking, "Yeah, I don't really want to do all the wet blending around the off center lighting source concept." My son and I will rely on your method to finally finish the Hoth expansion and get these figs on the table. It's been too long. Thanks for a great video.
ah i dont have airbrush so i will stick to my plan to paint it but finnaly 8 adults done today :P they are w8ing only for wet look like finish :P i would love to see core box hero paitning guide
Great work! Suggestion: how about a nachtjager from konflikt 47?
make reproductor too :P i am currently paitining normal aliens with yours guide
Awesome! Thanks for watching and following along! Good luck! I'd love to see how they turn out!
Sir, you are one of the best doing paint job for blood rage figures, please keep doing videos. In a future You will have more and more views, don’t give up sir
Thanks!! I'm hoping to post more soon! I do these because I love painting and making these videos. I'll be starting up again soon! Thanks again for your feedback and for watching!
I'd say that this is the best paintjob done on Nemesis figures. Amazing!
Thanks!! Also, thanks for watching! I'm hoping to get some more uploaded here soon!
Same i was thinking and still looks pretty simple :D
great tutorial .. please Queen tutorial :)
Fantastic job! I'm a bit newer to painting, so I followed this other dude's beginner guide: ua-cam.com/video/H8zdPjhjj2E/v-deo.html Loved watching how yours came out though!
Looks sexy. The base is better than the miniature sadly :) I have the same problem from time to time xD Also, why did you skip the runes on the back? Plus on his right arm, there are 2 runes above and below the armband which you neglected to highlight.
Kontramagija shoot, I must’ve overlooked those, sorry. Thanks for your feedback, I may have to go back and paint those later.
@@NerdPaints I just finished mine a few days ago that's why I knew where to look :) Yours ended up much better, I messed up the highlighting on mine he turned out too pale -> ibb.co/fdjDQjX
how you do the orange on the Cape
New to painting minis. Are you using a plastic cup to stabilize your mini? How’d you do that? Awesome video btw! Just got blood rage a while back and going to refer to your video to paint the fire giant tomorrow :-)
Thanks! Good luck to your painting! I am using a plastic cup. It's just a generic plastic cup I bought from the local store. I use a plastic cup and put some ticky tack on the underside of the miniature to stick to the cup. This really helps handing the miniature while painting.
I curious if you tried Contrast Paints on the Intruders, and if so what you would reccommend.
I haven't tried those yet. I just bought some though so I'll be giving them a shot soon
Love the metallic not fan of the green thoa but still amazing job
Great video. Hope to get mine soon. Going to follow this tutorial. Also bought three different color shift paints to give them a little variation. Keep up the great work.
It is the first time I watch a painting tutorial except Bob Ross and I must say, I've been quite impressed. Thank you. Good work!
how did the army painter tones compare to citadel washes (as far as actually handling them is concerned)?
Great job ! Could you propose a painting video for the Queen in Nemesis Boardgame ? Laurent from France
Hi Laurent from France! Yep - I'm actually working on the Queen right now. I'll probably open it up on my Patreon page first once it's done then public shortly after but stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
Love the colour scheme, and that it doesn't follow the typical dark/black/violet route most Nemesis painters took. Also, thanks for confirming that colorshift paints go with breeders like aliens and spaceships. First thing that came to my mind when I saw then was "This will go onto nemesis aliens once I get to painting them". And one they, it will.
top !
Thank you for your job, can't wait for the Queen and crew members pleaaaaase !
I think your added water texture turned out a lot better than the original sculpt
Thanks! I know it wasn't really necessary - the figure is pretty cool as is but I wanted to bring the waves to the edge of the base :)
